Entry to Further Education
Entry to Further Education (E2FE) is designed for year 10 and 11 students from schools in the local area. E2FE is appropriate for those students who may be not be ideally suited to the academic curriculum, or are becoming disaffected from mainstream school. Students who no longer attend school are also able to access this course, via referral from their local Out of School Learning Team.
For year 10 students, the program offers 3 different subjects over the year, of 10 weeks duration, one day per week. Year 11 students have the option to focus on a subject of their choice for 2 days per week, whilst working towards a Level 1 qualification.
Subjects on offer include Car mechanics, Catering, Art, Design and Media, and Construction, Childcare, Hair and Beauty and Public Services run in conjunction with Worthing College. These courses may take place on any of the 3 main Northbrook sites – Broadwater, West Durrington or Shoreham Airport and a new College Skills Centre based at Kingston Buci in Shoreham.
Study is largely practically based and takes place in a workshop setting. Each group has their own support worker who helps to facilitate learning during sessions, supports the tutor and offer pastoral support to the students outside of class. The support worker also works closely with all students to encourage positive progression. This may this be full time college, a modern apprenticeship or employment.
In addition students may study Maths, English and ICT two days a week at the Braodwater site.
E2FE works effectively for those students keen to experience vocationally based subjects within the college setting, and who may require some extra support.
Access to E2FE programmes is via a school or Out of School Learning referral.
