Catering Students in National Competition
N orthbrook Hospitality and Catering students traveled to Bournemouth to compete in the Wessex Salon Culinaire, a prestigious competition for people employed in or training for the Catering industry.
Two of the Northbrook students entered the 'Static Display Competition'. This involved menu designs, wine choices and a formal table lay-up for an awards ceremony. The two students, Russell Byrne and Andy Saunders, were awarded a Silver Medal and a Certificate of Merit respectively.
Two other students, Lisa Knill and Glen Noone took part in a live competition to produce a cold avocado dish suitable for a fine dining restaurant, and were awarded a Certificate of Merit. A further eight students entered a timed live competition to demonstrate a variety of vegetable cuts. Jenny Carroll was awarded the Silver Medal, Hanna Payne and Tim Bacon won the Bronze Medals and the remaining five students were presented with Certificates of Merit.
The competition from other colleges and the armed forces was fierce, making the achievements of those who took part all the more satisfying. The City & Guilds judges not only praised the individual effort of Northbrook's students but endorsed the College's excellent reputation.
