Northbrook student wins Young Chef of the Year

orthbrook student and lead chef at Brighton’s Temptation café, Oliver Darby, has won this year’s award for Young Chef of the Year at the prestigious Sussex Food and Drink Awards.
Oliver, 22, lives in Worthing and is studying for his NVQ 3 in Hospitality at Northbrook College. He has been cooking professionally for three years and has an excellent understanding of flavours and taste combinations. After reaching the final stages through public voting, he created a dish of Sussex lamb cooked two ways to win the award, utilising ingredients sourced from around the county.
Oliver is delighted to have won this award. He said, “The standard of all entrants was extremely high and I’m thrilled to have achieved this success”.
Peter Allinson, owner of Temptations and an ex-Northbrook Catering student, said, “This award is great recognition for Oliver and the quality of the food that he is able to produce. We plan to continue sourcing locally and enjoying the food of Sussex.”
Temptation, in Gardner Street, Brighton, is a new and vibrant café/bar in the North Laine area of Brighton, specialising in Sussex foods and offering a wide range of delicious menu options. Opened just seven months ago, the café has already picked up a great following with its comfortable surroundings, cool décor and fabulous loos. Independently owned, the café continues to expand with a range of options for evening private dining and specialist events.
