Student Becomes Chief Illustrator

Close up of student Illustatration of Sally A Northbrook student has become the Chief Illustrator for a new interactive learning website and magazine that has gone live this month.

Sally Cadogan completed a BTEC HND in Illustration at Northbrook last year and has been involved in starting up WordsPlease, an inventive and creative project aimed at inspiring young people with the English language.

WordsPlease is aimed at 10-14 year olds and gives subscribers access to a range of challenging activities to motivate and stimulate their learning. The activities cover a wide range of topics including poetry, word games, adaptations of Shakespeare plays and Chaucer Canterbury tales, writing activities, codes & ciphers and cryptic clues, so there is plenty to keep subscribers engaged.

Sally was responsible for designing the magazine and look of the website as well as illustrating the main website page that links to the activities. Sally also commissioned a fellow Illustration student, Arabella Clarke, to help out with some of the designs to ease her busy workload.

Sally got involved with the project when the Chief Editor, Alan Young, asked Sally’s tutor if she could recommend anyone to illustrate for the site and magazine. Sally, who only recently returned to college after having children, was delighted to be put forward. She said “The course really boosted my confidence as technology had moved on so far since I’d completed my course and to get back into it was amazing. If I hadn’t returned to study none of this would have come about”

Sally’s success has obviously been an inspiration to her son as he will be following in her footsteps and starting a Media Arts course at Northbrook in September.

The first month of WordsPlease is a free-trial so that young people and parents can try-out the resources before subscribing. Check out the site and begin to learn by visiting www.wordsplease.co.uk
