Educated at Whitgift School, Croydon, 1966-75. A levels in English, Business Studies, History, Economics & Public Affairs
BA Hons in Typography & Graphic Communication, Reading University, 1975-80
Book designer for Kogan Page (academic publishers), 1980-81; Magazine designer for Thirty Press, 1981-82; Studio Manager Willard Thompson, periodicals and advertising company, 1982-85
Freelance designer and Partnership with my wife (as 'Teamwork'), since 1985, with main focus on editorial design, publicity work, and book production. 1998 founded Teamwork Craftbooks, independent publisher – 20 titles produced so far. Also design work for other publishers, including David & Charles, Guild of Master Craftsmen, Traplet Publications, plus typographic consultant for Paternoster Press and periodicals
Started teaching at Northbrook in 1987, on a mix of FE & HE design, media, illustration ourses. Now teach exclusively on higher education courses, and have been tutor and lecturer on the Foundation Degree Graphic Design course since its start at the College in 2009.
Publications & Exhibitions
Co-author of Learn Lettering & Calligraphy, Step-by-step (1st published 1986 and reprinted many times since)
Co-creator of a range of books as part of Teamwork Craftbooks catalogue, including Glimpses of New Zealand (1st edition 2009, reprinted twice); Glimpses of Britain (published 2012); Stained Glass Patchwork Techniques: Birds (published 2015)
Regular exhibition stands at both national and international quilt shows, including yearly at Birmingham NEC Festival of Quilts, and in 2015 at MEEC, Maastricht.
Trustee of international sports charity Passion for Sport, and responsible for complete new design branding package in 2014-ongoing and including logo, publicity material, house styling, and advice on website elements.
