How to lay out a palette for portrait painting, how to mix colours, how to measure for accurate drawing, scale and composition, how to recognise and correct mistakes and, if appropriate, building a portfolio for interview etc.
What you will achieve
By the end of the course you will be able to produce a tonal underpainting or drawing, show that you have considered scale and composition, show that you can work from observation of portrait models to produce finished drawings or paintings, assess your progress with the activities at an introductory or intermediate level.
Painting or Drawing Portraits in January 2017, the Friday morning Life Drawing course after Easter and ACL courses starting in September 2017. Having built a portfolio of artwork you could apply for the part-time or full-time BA Fine Arts course at the College
For Session 1 - Please bring drawing or painting materials of your choice (the paint colour ‘Naples Yellow’ is useful for mixing skin tones), something to paint on (paper, canvas, canvas board etc.) and brushes, palette etc. as appropriate to the media. Digital camera as you may be permitted to take a photo to continue work at home. Zest-it diluant if using oils. Advice on materials in week 1.
