About this Course

Create portraits in paint or drawing media from direct observation. This course is suitable for all abilities and for portfolio building. Advice on colour mixing and how to begin.

 

Course Content

How to lay out a palette for portrait painting, how to mix colours, how to measure for accurate drawing, scale and composition, how to recognise and correct mistakes and, if appropriate, building a portfolio for interview etc.

What you will achieve

By the end of the course you will be able to sproduce a tonal underpainting or drawing, show that you have considered scale and composition, show that you can work from observation of portrait models to produce finished drawings or paintings, assess your progress with the activities at an introductory or intermediate level

Progression/Career Path

Painting or Drawing Portraits in January 2019, the Thursday morning Life Drawing course after Easter and ACL courses starting in September 2019. Having built a portfolio of artwork you could apply for the part-time or full-time BA Fine Art course at the College.

Other Costs

For Session 1 - Please bring drawing materials - advice on paints for week 2 will be given in week 1. The colour 'Naples yellow' will be used during the course. Digital camera as you may be permitted to take photo to continue work at home. Zest-it diluant must be used in place of turps if using oil paints.

Maggie has a Masters degree in Fine Art, a BA (Hons) degree and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education. She has won local and national art awards and works as an artist and designer in a variety of media.
