Entry Requirements

This Level 1 course is for students who have fewer than 3 GCSEs at grade 3 or above. You should ideally have 2 GCSEs at grade 1 or you should be able to demonstrate at interview that you have the right ability for this course.

Course Content

This course is for students at the start of their creative journey. It includes the basics of:

  • Music (making your own music on a computer)
  • Music Technology (recording in a music studio)
  • Related Media Production (making music videos, websites and sound effects)


Students study elements of creating music, recording music and video-making skills. You will learn life skills through a range of exciting projects. The course also includes Functional Skills (English and Maths). More information

Progression/Career Path

After 1 year at Level 1 you can achieve a Laser Foundation Learning Level 1 Diploma in Music & Media. This means you can move on to a Level 2 course in Music Performance or Music Technology or to one of Northbrook’s other Level 2 courses in media, performing arts or art and design.
