About this Course


This course is aimed at students who are interested in a future career as a make-up artist and focuses on the principles and practical skills required to work in the make-up industry. The course is the perfect place to start if you have no previous experience of the Makeup industry. The course will provide you with the relevant basic skills and knowledge required to work in the make-up industry.

This course is aimed at students who are interested in a future career as a make-up artist and focuses on the principles and practical skills required to work in the make-up industry. Within this course you will learn about working in beauty related industries, how to follow health & safety in the salon and about client care and communication in beauty related industries. You will also study units on applying make-up, body art design, the art of photographic make-up and eyelash and brow treatments.


Other units include how to create an image based on a theme within the hair & beauty sector, the Art of colouring and dressing hair, making and styling a hair addition and applying skin tanning techniques.

 

Entry Requirements

To start on this course you need:
Either
Three GCSEs at grade D/3 or above, including English and maths, and an art GCSE or a portfolio of your creative work.
or
A relevant Level 1 qualification with at least 80% Merit profile, including Level1 English and Maths requirements and appropriate references.

Course Content


You will train in the College’s salons which are open to the public and you will be continually assessed. The course will also include work experience which may need to be undertaken outside of your timetabled hours. You will therefore need to be prepared to take opportunities where they arise and be able to work both independently and as part of a team.Much of the learning process will be student centred and will require commitment, dedication and the ability to conduct independent research.

English and Maths are part of the core programme of study. Students who have not achieved grade A*-C/9-4 in English and Maths will be required to study the appropriate level as part of their main qualification. More information

Progression/Career Path


After 1 year at Level 2 you can achieve a Level 2 Diploma in Hair and Media Make-up. This means that you can progress to the Level 3 Diploma in Hair and Media Make-up
