About this Course

..

This course is practical and work related. You learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic activities, analysis of games, players and the industry. These require a unique set of skills which covers disciplines in games development, design & production, games platforms, graphic design, animation (2D and 3D), use of sound in games, programming and logical problem solving.

Entry Requirements

To start on this course, you need


At least 4 GCSEs at Grade 4 / C or above, preferably including English & maths
or
a relevant Level 2 qualification with a Merit profile, including English and maths requirements.

If you will not have the above qualifications, you may be able to start on the Level 2 course instead, before applying to move on to this Level 3 course.

Course Content

Units provide a solid understanding of the games industry and wider media environment. Additionally, students acquire important communication, research, career development, managerial and other professional skills.

Assessment/Exams

This course is assessed via ongoing observations and assignments. Presentations may occasionally be used for assessing learning. This qualification has a mixture of internal and external assessments.

Progression/Career Path

After 1 year you can achieve a UAL Diploma In Creative Media Production (Games Development). This means you can progress to the Extended Diploma course (below).


After 2 years you can achieve a UAL Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production (Games Development). This is equivalent to 3 A Levels. This means you can apply for university level courses. Careers can include: games-related or IT disciplines such as a developer or designer.

Funding & Financial Support

Age 16-17 starters -You will not have to pay fees on condition you are still under 19 on 31st August in each year of the course.


Age 18+ starters - Some students may have to pay for part of their course. More information»
