About this Course

This course in Digital Arts offers you the opportunity to develop in-depth knowledge in areas including photography, moving image, advertising design & animation. Studying on this programme will equip you with an in-depth understanding of the technical and production skills you need in order to become a creative digital producer.


As well developing your software skills, the course will also enable you to develop skills such as creative idea development, planning and organization, and effective communication skills.


The course is taught by a team skilled in communication, photography, advertising design, animation, illustration and film-making.

Entry Requirements

To start on this course you need:


at least four GCSEs at grade 4 or above, preferably including English and maths.


or


a relevant Level 2 qualification, including English and maths requirements.


You will be asked to show a portfolio of your art/design work at interview.

Course Content

The University of the Arts London Diplomas have been designed to provide young people with the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to progress to degree level study in creative media, art and design or into training or employment.


Course delivery and assessment is carried out through practical activities, lectures and workshops. You will be given briefs from which you will develop practical outcomes in photography, moving image, communication design and animation.


You will also develop your communication expertise , leadership skills and also your ability to work collaboratively in a team, basically all the skills that you will need to work in the creative industries.


If you have not yet achieved GCSE grade 4 or above in English and/or maths, you will also study English and/or maths while at college.

  • Adobe Suite software; In-Design, PhotoShop, Illustrator, Premiere, After-Effects
  • Visual storytelling and camera techniques
  • Studio lighting


You will be working in our well-equipped photography studios and Mac suites.


The Extended Diploma is equivalent to 3 A Levels. This means you can apply for university courses.

Assessment/Exams

Students are assessed via observations, completion of practical and written assignments. Presentations may also be used for assessing communication skills.

Progression/Career Path

After 1 year at Level 3 you can achieve a University of the Arts London (UAL) Level 3 Diploma in Art & Design - Digital Arts. This means you can progress to the Extended Diploma course (below).


After 2 years at Level 3 you can achieve a University of the Arts London (UAL) Extended Diploma in Art & Design This is equivalent to 3 A Levels.


Students will progress onto employment or higher education in areas such as: photography, moving image, and graphic design. Some may wish to go onto degree courses offered by Northbrook MET, such as our FdA or BA degrees in graphic design, illustration, photography and moving image production.


Funding & Financial Support

Age 16-17 starters -You will not have to pay fees on condition you are still under 19 on 31st August in each year of the course.


Age 18+ starters - Some students may have to pay for part of their course. More information»
