BTEC Subsidiary Diploma in Dance (Level 3)
Entry Requirements
To start on this course you need:
4 GCSEs at grades A* to C, including English, or a Level 2 qualification in a relevant subject. Experience in Dance is essential. Applicants are auditioned.
(Alternatively: Students with at least 4 GCSEs at grade D or above could start by doing a year on the Level 2 Dance course instead.)
About this course
This course builds on Northbrook's excellent reputation in dance and physical theatre, training in a wide variety of techniques. Full collaboration with our partner courses in Musical Theatre and Production - as well as the great facilities including five dance studios - makes it unique in the south of England.
At Level 3 you will study advanced skills focusing on dance styles including: jazz, tap, urban, ballet, contemporary and world dance as well as physical theatre, audition techniques, arts business and historical context. You will be assessed through a range of assignments which include practical elements, but there are no exams.
Progression/Career
After 1 year, you can achieve a Subsidiary Diploma. Most students will then apply for the Extended Diploma course.
(Students with more exprience may be able to fast track to achieve the more advanced Diploma after only 1 year. The Diploma is equivalent to 2 A Levels, meaning you could apply for university level courses or seek employment.)
After 2 years, you can achieve the Extended Diploma. This is equivalent to 3 A Levels. This means you can apply for university level courses or seek work in industry. Students also apply to many other specialist courses at universities/drama schools. These have included Middlesex University, East 15, Central School of Speech and Drama, Laines, Guildhall, Guildford, Birds College, Tiffany's, Roehampton University.
