N orthbrook Art and Design students created an underground art gallery in a disused showroom. The students had only 48 hours to transform a space in the recently vacated Allied Carpets store in Worthing.

The artwork was created as part of The Empty Shops Network which sees empty spaces transformed into space for community group projects, supporting new business ideas and for local artists to showcase their work.

Using paint and materials found on site and picked up from other exhibitors, the 17 art students worked under pressure for two days to create the striking site specific artwork.

Tutor, Stephanie Bolt said, “The artwork is a Christmas gift from the students to the public. All the students involved worked incredibly hard to show that it can be done.”
