College's Role in International Music Industry Convention

N orthbrook College is delighted to have been invited to be the key education partner at this year’s Great Escape - the music industry convention and festival which attracts 15,000 visitors from all over the world.

Northbrook will be delivering a series of interactive workshops and stimulating debates on contemporary issues and innovative business models that are essential to catapult music projects into the next decade.

Northbrook will deliver three panel talks with leading figures from the music industry on music law, digital marketing and music production. They are coordinated by Mike Pailthorpe, course leader for the college’s Music Business degrees, and Lisa Holloway, the Great Escape’s Fundraising Manager, who also plays a business development role at Northbrook as well as teaching on its Music Business courses.

The first panel, on day one of the convention, is entitled ‘ Will a qualification get you a job in Music Production?’ It asks whether things have changed since the time when everyone just started at the bottom and worked their way up.

The second panel, ‘ Digital Marketing for artists - what actually works?’, will give the low down on what is working and what isn’t in this fast changing environment.

Finally, on day three, Northbrook hosts ‘The Legal Panel’ which brings together some of the top lawyers in the industry, international legal experts who work with the biggest names in music.

Several ex-Northbrook students are also appearing on panels as current practitioners - notably, Radha Medar, who is now record label manager for Deadly People; Dan Arnold, who is one of the Qemists (and also teaches part time at Northbrook); Will Rankin, known as High Rankin, a well known artist and remixer and Caitlin Lock, a music label marketeer, currently with [PIAS] Digital Marketing.
