An army helicopter flew in to visit Northbrook College students last week.
The Lynx helicopter’s visit was part of an army careers event held at the College’s Shoreham Airport campus.
The Army’s careers service is keen to recruit aircraft technicians from Northbrook’s aeronautical engineering courses. The students were shown around the inside of the helicopter by the pilot and door gunner, where they got a first hand look at some of the equipment.
The careers day was organised by the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers and included a presentation, a display of the various types of uniforms, seeing what makes up a soldier’s field kit and the opportunity to try on body armour, helmets and various webbing.
The students were also split into groups which were each given a Haynes model four cylinder engine to build and they were assessed on technical prowess, the ability to work as a team, organisational skills and interpretation of technical information.
