The Physical Theatre Foundation degree covers 10 units over two years.  5 at level one (1st year) and 5 at level two (2nd year)This pioneering course is appropriate for student actors, dancers, street artists, circus performers and directors interested in creating original and challenging theatre, that is powerful and meaningful.  Because of the unique regional environment, supporting international festivals in Brighton, Arundel, Chichester as well as London, there is an emphasis on site specific, multimedia,  visual and interactive theatre.  The course aims to question from an informed platform, the boundaries of performance by exploring the relationship between the disciplines, and between the audience and performer.  This enquiry is underpinned by the development of physical and performance skills in physical theatre techniques, contact improvisation, dance and movement forms, voice work, characterisation, performance skills, devising techniques, mime and  mask work. There is a bias towards self devised / directed original work

Within the course the students are given plenty of opportunities to demonstrate how their training is paying off through the many productions. These include the opportunity to perform at the Northbrook Theatre, and numerous opportunities to present work at venues in Brighton and the region, also in  one of our numerous studio venues and one if not more opportunities to perform in a professional Theatre venue in either London or the Brighton. This opportunity is open to both year one and two students. Over the last few years we have also made it possible for students to perform as part of the Brighton Fringe and the Edinburgh Festivals. We are constantly looking for new venues and festivals for our students to be a part of as we feel that these types of industry experience are invaluable.
