Engineering Institute Visits with Approval Certificate

Staff and students at Northbrook College Sussex were treated to a visit from the President of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers, John Wood, who awarded the College with a Certificate of Approval for its Engineering Advanced Apprenticeship Scheme.

Mr Wood took a tour of Northbrook’s Shoreham Airport campus including the motor vehicle workshop and aircraft hangar and met Engineering apprentices from the College.

Also present were Dr Dal Koshal, Chairman of the Instituteof Mechanical Engineers South East Region Committee, and Andrew Mclachlan, Secretary, South East Region.

Mr Wood gave a talk on “Low Carbon Vehicles – Engineering the Challenge”, to staff, students and local businesses, before presenting Northbook with its Certificate of Approval.

Brenda Cook, head of Apprenticeships at Northbrook College Sussex said, “Education and training in Engineering will play an important role in the development of the region.”

Last month, the Coastal West Sussex partnership met at Northbrook’s Shoreham Campus to discuss the ‘Future Development Opportunities for Shoreham and the Skills Challenge’ and Northbrook Principal Sue Dare spoke of the vital role of education and training in these developments. The workshop also explored how a partnership approach across education, local authorities and business can inspire people to learn, develop and innovate.
