Graduation 2011

Northbrook College held its Higher Education graduation ceremony on Friday at Worthing’s Assembly Hall. A total of 545 students graduated from Northbrook’s university level courses this year.

The guest of honour this year was Steve Allen, founder of Prime Care, who gave an inspirational speech, encouraging the graduates to take risks and believe in themselves. Other guests of the College included the Mayor of Worthing, MP Peter Bottomley, Vice Chancellor of Chichester University, representatives of Brighton University, local councillors and Heads of local schools.

The atmosphere was celebratory with the graduates cheering their classmates as they each went up to the stage. Afterwards, graduate Julie Ball gave the ‘vote of thanks’ speech on behalf of the students, during which all the graduates threw their caps into the air.

Northbrook’s Vice Principal, Karimah Butcher also presented five Outstanding Achievement awards to graduates Leon Standing (Counselling), Lesley James (Early Years Care), Cheryl Jones (Theatre Arts), Aaron Walsh (Electronic Engineering) and Dora Rodriguez Castro (Journalism).

Guest speaker Steve Allen is a former Police Officer with Sussex Police, Steve studied Criminal Justice at Exeter University and holds a post-graduate Diploma in Risk Management from Loughborough University. He has lectured on Business Intelligence for the National White Collar Crime Centre in Washington and he was also seconded as a CARICOM Customs Officer on fiscal control projects in the Caribbean.
