City & Guilds Medal for Excellence

Deborah receives her award A Northbrook student has been awarded a City and Guilds Medal for Excellence. Debra Nugent attended a ceremony in London as well as a presentation at the College.

Debra is a student on the NVQ Level 3 course in Supporting Teaching & Learning. She was awarded the medal for outstanding performance in the Education and Training sector. Debra’s tutor, Karen Freeman, nominated her for demonstrating enthusiasm and dedication to her studies, whilst overcoming a number of personal challenges.

Debra’s five year old daughter has cerebral palsy and she has been tirelessly fundraising for her daughter to have an operation in America. Her son has also been recently diagnosed with Asperger’s and ADD and Debra has opted to home tutor him as, until his medication balance is correct, he can find school difficult to cope with.

Karen said, “Throughout all of her trials and tribulations, Debra has not complained about her workload or any part of the course. The pressure on Debra must have been immense, but she has been a regular and punctual student, always contributing positively to the College sessions and smiling throughout! She has applied herself consistently; inspiring and winning the respect and support of everyone in her cohort - both students and staff alike.”
