Students' Cafe Wins National Award

A café run by ex-Northbrook students and apprentices has won a national award. Brighton’s Temptation Café in Gardner Street has been recognised in the first ever Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers list, supported by the National Apprenticeship Service (NAS) and City & Guilds - the UK’s leading vocational education organisation.  The 100 employers were announced last week at the annual National Apprenticeship Awards.

Founded in 2009, Temptation has quickly become a firm favourite in the Brighton café scene. Behind the scenes, owner Peter Allinson went back to college himself to get ready to open the doors. Studying at Northbrook College, Worthing, he met and recruited the best students from the catering apprenticeship scheme, forming the team that would open the business.

Over the last two years, four students have completed apprenticeship awards, helping the individuals achieve personal success and developing an excellent reputation for the food that they produce within the café.

Peter Allinson, Owner, said “We are delighted to receive this award as recognition of our commitment towards learning and employment development. As a new small business, we feel very proud to see our apprentices achieving and making progress”.

Temptation café is on Gardner Street and was founded in 2009 by Peter Allinson and Paul Tempest. It aims to source local Sussex foods and provide a stylish haven in the heart of Brighton’s vibrant North Laine area. Runner up in last year’s Brighton Foodie Award and winner of Sussex Young Chef 2009/10, the café has quickly picked up a wide following and enthusiastic customer base.
