Northbrook Rocked The Pier

The pier in the sun N orthbrook College hijacked the end of Worthing Pier on Sunday as they joined in the festivities for Pier Day 2008.

As the temperature soared, so did the number of people wandering down to watch Northbrook’s bands, buy a pancake and enquire about the College.

Band ‘Climax Unit’, kicked off the afternoon event that saw crowds of people gathering to watch the eclectic line-up. Northbrook girl band ‘Red Tention’ then followed and a band from Worthing High School who received much appreciated praise from their spectators. Ex-student band ‘Tubba 3 Ply’ attracted a big crowd who joined lead guitarist and music lecturer Niall Carson, in hopping around. ‘Goodbye Harddrive’ were the final band of the day who finished off with a reworked version of the Greece hit ‘Summer Lovin’, a perfect finale for the glorious sunshine that had lasted all day.

Music Lecturer, Mike Pailthorpe, who was behind organising the bands, was really pleased with the set and said “This is the first year the Music Department have been involved with Pier Day and we hope next year will be even bigger”.

Northbrook’s Head of Catering, Peter Whiffen, proved a massive hit with the crowds - or rather his tasty French pancakes did. With Peter on the pancakes and lecturer, Neil Libby, dishing out the toppings, the queue never shortened.

The entire day was a great success and the seafront has never seemed so busy. Northbrook was pleased to be onboard and will definitely be returning next year to entertain the folk of Worthing.
