The College is keen to support your achievement on study programmes with access to well-qualified staff, appropriate resources and opportunities to plan the next step in your career.

 

There are FOUR MAIN ELEMENTS that make up your Government supported study programme. These are:

VOCATIONAL SUBJECT OF YOUR CHOICE

For example Catering, Early Years, Performing Arts, Music, Art & Design, Engineering, Carpentry, Business, IT, Hairdressing, etc

This will make up the major part of your study programme.

ENGLISH AND MATHS

(compulsory in England for 16-19 year olds who have lower than GCSE grade C or 4 points on the new GCSE Grading Structure)

  • If you already have GCSE grades C or above or at least 4 points on the new GCSE Grading Structure  in English and/or Maths, you will continue to improve your English and Maths within your vocational course
  • If you have GCSE grade D or 3 points on the new GCSE Grading Structure in English and/or Maths - or Level 1 or 2 Functional Skills - you will study GCSE/IGCSE in that subject (or both) during the year, with an exam in the summer term of 2017.
  • If you have GCSE grade E or 2 points on the new GCSE Grading Structure in English and/or Maths, you will study GCSE/IGCSE in that subject (or both) during the year, with an exam in the summer term of 2017.
  • If you have GCSE grade F/G or 1 point in English and/or Maths – or Entry Level Functional Skills - you will attend Level 1 Functional Skills with a test during the Academic Year.
  • If you have GCSE grade U or no GCSE in English and/or Maths you will be enrolled on Entry 3 Level Functional Skills with a test during the Academic Year.
  • If you are age 19 or over at the beginning of your course you are not required to achieve English/Maths.

PLANNED WORK PLACEMENT

During the academic year you will be timetabled for a compulsory external work placement.  Further details will be provided by your Course Tutor.  This is an essential part of your Study Programme.

EMPLOYABILITY AND PROGRESSION

Northbrook prides itself on excellent progression rates to higher level courses or employment. The tutorial and employability elements of your programme will help you to achieve and progress. Opportunities to prepare you for the world of work will include planned work placement, industry speakers and entrepreneurial skills.
