Our Matrix Accredited College Careers & Employability Service provides current and potential students with independent information, advice and guidance in all areas related to careers and employability.


Our team of qualified Careers Advisors are available to provide you with impartial advice and guidance to support your aspirations, explore the opportunities that are available to you and to help you plan your next steps after you complete your course. Our aim is to help you assess your own skills, values and interests, and match these interests into a career plan.


Our team of Work Experience Coordinators are available to help match you to relevant and meaningful work experience and industry placements. Our aim is ensure you have the opportunity to benefit from putting theory into practice, and leave college with the knowledge, skills and attitude you need ready for the world of work.

Getting the most out of your time at college


During your time at the MET you will have access to a range of Careers and Employability activities that are delivered through the College's Careers Programme.


Your Careers Programme

Induction week:

  • Overview of Careers and Employability Programme and introductions to people who can support you with your career planning
  • Tour of the college including the Student Centres (Careers & Employability team and the Apprenticeship team), and the Learning Resource centres.

 

Throughout the year:

  • Individual tutorials including career planning and preparation for work experience
  • 1:1 support from the Careers & Employability team
  • Support from the college's Apprenticeship team, on applying and preparing for Apprenticeships
  • Individual Support and Career Planning for Students with Special Educational and Support Needs (SEND)
  • Personal Career research using Career Coach resources on the college website
  • Curriculum based Careers and Work related activities, trips and visits from industry speakers
  • Higher Education and UCAS talks and workshops
  • Career planning progression talks, workshops and activities
  • Support to take part in work experience placements, projects and other work related activities

 

Careers Guidance


If you are unsure about your career pathway or confused about which university course to do or what your progression options are, then a 1-1 appointment may suit you. All sessions are confidential and the information is only shared between advisers and the student.
This service is available to ALL current students or anyone thinking of studying at the MET - contact the careers team to arrange an appointment at a time that suits you, or pop along to one of our regular drop ins.

 

The Careers team main base is the Student Centre at Broadwater Campus

 

Details of weekly campus Careers drop-ins will be advertised on the Student Portal.

 

There is a weekly apprenticeship surgery at the Broadwater Campus every Wednesday 3.00pm-4.30pm.

MET Progression Promise

We guarantee a place on an internal university-level course for all final-year Level 3 students, provided they complete their course and meet any other offer conditions. Under the promise scheme, there is no need to apply through UCAS or attend a formal interview.
