The Course

This specialist course focuses on costume design and manufacture for the entertainment industry. It develops skills in design through illustration, research and character exploration.

Course Content

The manufacture of costumes covers fabrics, alternative materials, sewing & construction, prop making skills in the development of character costumes, pattern cutting, dyeing & fabric treatments, breaking down and ageing. The course is structured to offer an equal quantity of individual projects and production practice on a wide range of internal productions and external commissions. Throughout your studies the cost of materials is fully funded on production practice. Work experience underpins the training into the second year of the course and opportunities are available to work across theatre, TV and film. Subject based research and analysis underpins the study of both years.

Progression/Career

Past graduates have gone on to work as costume designers, design assistants, costume makers, wardrobe supervisors, dressers and wardrobe assistants, or continued their education on the BA (Hons) top-up at Northbrook or progressed to other Higher Education establishments.
