Theatre Technology - BTEC Subsidiary Diploma (Level 3)
Entry Requirements
4 GCSEs at grades A* to C or a Level 2 qualification in a relevant subject.
Students with 4 GCSEs at grades D or above (including English) can start by doing a year on the Level 2 course in Production before moving on to this Level 3 course.
The Course
The one year course is designed for students interested in the technical support for all forms of theatre events, including musicals, plays, dance performance, concerts and gigs. You will learn how to plan, design, rig and operate the systems necessary for theatre and music production: sound, light, comms and projection.
Modules include:
- Production for theatre performance
- Technical stage operations
- Stage lighting design
- Stage lighting operations
- Stage sound operations
Progression/Career
After 1 year you can achieve a BTEC Subsidiary Diploma in Production Arts (Theatre Technology). This is equivalent to 1 A Level. This means you could apply for the Extended Diploma in Production Arts or, if you have sufficient UCAS points, you could apply for university level courses. Students also apply to many other specialist courses at universities or theatre schools or find work in the entertainment industry.
Students with more experience could achieve the more advanced BTEC Diploma in Production Arts (Technical). This is equivalent to 2 A Levels. This means you could apply for university level courses. Students also apply to many other specialist courses at universities or theatre schools or find work in the entertainment industry.
