COURSE OVERVIEW
The Level 3 Diploma in Accounting is a potential route into employment with a globally recognised qualification accrediting the skills and knowledge required by employers.
The Level 3 Diploma in Accounting provides students with the specialist knowledge and skills required to progress their employment in an accounting or finance role. It also acts as a bridge into more advance accounting studies, usually the AAT level 4 Diploma in Professional Accounting.
Attendance is required at College on one day per week. There is a direct link between attendance and exam results so it is important not to miss any lessons.
This qualification is a progression route for students who have achieved the Level 2 Certificate in Accounting.
The Level 3 Diploma in Accounting comprises four mandatory units:
- Business Awareness
- Financial accounting -; Preparing financial statements
- Management accounting techniques
- Tax processes for Business
The purpose of this qualification is to ensure that students are well prepared to progress into a career in business, finance or professional accountancy, or into further education.
Students will learn and develop the skills needed for financial processes, including accounting principles and concepts, advanced bookkeeping and preparing financial statements.
They will also understand the business environment, technology used in finance and accounting, business issues regarding payroll and value added tax (VAT). Also covered are management accounting techniques, ethical principles and sustainability considerations for accountants.
Study Method -; Online and On Campus: We have partnered with Mindful Education to deliver this apprenticeship through our Online and On Campus model.
Online lessons can be accessed at any time, using a mobile, tablet or desktop -; meaning apprentices can fit their study around work commitments, minimising disruption in the workplace. Each lesson lasts around 45 minutes and is accompanied by animations and motion graphics to bring concepts to life. Exercises, interactive case studies and analytical tools help to enhance the learning experience further. On campus, apprentices benefit from regular classes with an experienced college tutor, either in-person or virtually. A combination of tutor-led work, group exercises and discussion encourages apprentices to apply theory to real-life workplace situations.
This modern, flexible approach to apprenticeship training empowers learners, minimises disruption to employers, and delivers tangible results in the workplace.
The objective of the qualification is to support the learner’;;s role in the workplace, providing the opportunity to learn and evidence knowledge as part of an apprenticeship. This qualification has been developed to support learners completing the Professional Accounting/Tax Technician Apprenticeship Standard and covers the knowledge, skills and behaviours of the standard.
This course starts on 06/03/2025 – Thursday and runs weekly from 13:303 to 16:30.
FURTHER INFORMATION
Students must have completed the AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting.
Accountants work at the very heart of a business and are expected to be able to communicate information clearly and appropriately to a given audience.
Therefore, students must have GCSEs in English and Maths at level 4 or above, or level 2 functional skills qualifications in English and Maths. These must be obtain BEFORE starting this course.
Students who successfully complete the course, can progress onto the AAT Level 4 Diploma in Professional Accounting or the Level 4 apprenticeship.

Students must be successful in the four mandatory unit assessments to achieve this qualification.
The proportion of this qualification assessed by externally marked assessment is 100%.
All assessments in this qualification:
- are set and marked by AAT
- are computer based
- are time-limited
- will take place in your normal classroom
Course fee including one sitting of each exam.
In addition to the course fee you will also pay a one off registration fee to the AAT of £228
