Level X

Dressmaking | Beginners

COURSE OVERVIEW

Students will construct a straightforward garment during the course such as a skirt, simple dress or jumpsuit fitted perfectly to yourself. You will gain confidence using a sewing machine and an overlocker, and learn professional finishes, how to insert a zip or buttonholes, how to read a commercial pattern and understand its terminology.

The course is designed for those with basic or no previous knowledge of sewing. Whether you haven’t done any sewing in 40 years or have never sat at a sewing machine in your life, this course is for you.

By the end of the course you will be able to operate a sewing machine, construct a simple garment and choose commercial patterns, fabric and haberdashery appropriate for your use.

In addition to the cost fees, students will be required to purchase their own material, pattern and sewing sundries.

Tutors: Rosie Carne and Claire Smith
