Dressmaking – Mend, Repair, Re-Purpose, Re-Use – Sewing for Improvers

Clothes too big, too small, a little bit worn or want to do a re-style but don’;t know where to start? Want to re-purpose, re-use or upcycle and do your bit to save the planet from the growing textile mountain? Then do join us for this 5 week course in which you can bring along all those garments and make them wearable and usable again. This course is ideal for those who already know how to use a sewing machine but want to improve and expand their sewing skills and techniques and realise their own creativity.

This course structure will be very much led by what everyone brings to the sessions, but can include: the ‘proper’; and speedy way to approach alterations, using Bondaweb (for applique and mending), basics of visible mending, how to adjust for fit, quick unpicking, adding embellishments.

Sewing machines and overlockers are available to use at the college, although you may find it useful to have your own sewing machine to practice sewing techniques and continue at home.
