Experimental Embroidery – Summer Term

Starting with the fundamentals of traditional hand stitching, we’ll delve into the expansive realm of embroidery as a form of expressive art. We will explore the art of mark-making with thread, experiment with colour, and master techniques for creating textures and patterns. Through this course, we’ll develop skills in design and image transfer, working with a diverse range of fabrics and unconventional surfaces for embroidery. We will utilise materials as a source of inspiration, including vintage textiles and old photographs, resulting in the creation of initial samples that can later evolve into finished pieces. Drawing inspiration from the innovative work of contemporary embroidery artists worldwide, we’ll immerse ourselves in the captivating realm of modern textiles.

Whether you’re a novice or an experienced individual, this course is designed to accommodate all skill levels.

Tutor Becky Edmunds. This course runs on a Wednesday evening 1830-2100.
