Illustration for Beginners

COURSE OVERVIEW

Illustration crosses over many art-based media and subjects as it is a versatile practice that can be applied through a multitude of techniques. Illustration is intertwined with most creative industries, such as marketing, advertising, graphic design, games design and many more. Being able to illustrate a concept or an idea is regarded as a key skill. Moreover, it is a powerful artistic expertise that can unlock creative opportunities for innovative individuals – Advancing the skills of beginners who enjoy sketching and drawing as a hobby.
Attainable illustration techniques will be practised by using traditional and digital methods of drawing and design, such as illustrating literature, creating a comic strip, hand lettering, learning to use illustration software and more.
By the end of the course, you will be able to demonstrate that you have practised and learned illustrating ideas and concepts, at an introductory or intermediate level, making decisions on composition, layout, tonal variation and the application of creative thinking – and produced at least 4 pieces of completed illustrations.
If you have built up a significant portfolio of artwork you could apply for the part-time or full-time BA Illustration course or an Art Foundation course at Northbrook College.
