Pattern Cutting | For Beginners and Improvers

COURSE OVERVIEW

This course is aimed at intermediate and experienced sewists who want to learn basic pattern-cutting techniques. This will enable you to create your own simple sewing patterns that fit your personal body shape.
You will learn:
  • how to take accurate body measurements
  • to draft a block (template) of your choice
  • how to make fit adjustments for your personal body shape
  • the pattern cutting techniques to create a simple sewing pattern for a simple skirt, trousers or top/dress.
  • By the end of the course you will be able to: draft a block from your own measurements, identify and make simple fit adjustments and create sewing pattern/s for your own simple design.
What do I need to bring?
  • 2H and HB pencils
  • Rubber
  • Multi-coloured fine tip pens
  • Calculator
  • Metric tape measure
  • Paper scissors
  • Optional pattern-cutting equipment: pattern master
For the first session please wear a close – but not tight-fitting top/bottom, e.g. vest with your ‘normal’; underwear. This is because we need to take very accurate body measurements!
Tutor
Jo Bunner studied at the London College of Fashion and worked as a Designer/Pattern Cutter for over a decade. She has been teaching sewing and pattern-cutting skills at all levels to adult learners in Sussex for over 8 years.

HOW THE APPLICATION PROCESS WORKS

Step 1

Set Up Your Account

You’ll be prompted to create an account which will allow you to log in to our Application Tracker website whenever you wish. This will provide you with important information and you can also track the progress of your application.

Step 2

Apply

Complete each step of the application form and then submit your completed form. We’ll let you know when we’ve safely received it with an acknowledgement email.

Step 3

Application Review Meeting

Before offering you a place at college, we’ll meet with you (either in person, by telephone or online). We’ll send you a link to our booking page where you can select a time that’s convenient for you.

Step 4

Accept Your Place

Offers will be sent to you via the email address you have provided. The offer will be conditional, based on predicted GCSE grades. You’ll need to accept your offer within 14 days to secure your place.

Step 5

What next?

Once you receive your GCSE results, you’ll need to get in touch with the college to inform us of them and start your enrolment process.
