A record number of people attended the recent Adur & Worthing Apprenticeship Fair held at Northbrook MET's Broadwater Campus, to find out more about apprenticeships and meet businesses, training providers, employers, universities and colleges.
Over 250 visitors came along to the special event in July, which was run by West Sussex County Council and Adur & Worthing Business Partnership (AWBP).
The fair, which attracted 35 exhibitors, was aimed at all age groups, as well as those just starting a career, thinking of retraining or returning to work.
Andrew Swayne, Chair of AWBP, said, "I was delighted to see the wide range of apprenticeship opportunities on offer locally - which is a great indication of the strength and diversity of the economy in Adur and Worthing. The event worked really well and has become a worthy addition to the range of high quality events supported by the Business Partnership."
Lucy Bodrell, HR Adviser for Rossetts Commercials , a local Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicle dealership, said, "Our reason for exhibiting was to find some potential recruits for our apprenticeship scheme 2019 intake. We currently have apprentices through Northbrook MET and we wish to build our relationships with local colleges."
"We met some really enthusiastic students who have a passion for cars and the motor industry. It was a fantastic opportunity to meet the parents too. Potentially, we feel that we will be able to successfully recruit a student for our 2019 intake next year. "
Event organiser Angela Crane, Economy & Skills Officer for Adur & Worthing Councils, said, "One of the additions to this year's fair included careers advice by local qualified careers advisers from West Sussex County Council's Post-16 team. They worked tirelessly throughout the event, which is a strong indication of the importance of providing quality careers guidance alongside information events such as this."
Adur & Worthing Councils, in collaboration with West Sussex County Council and Coast to Capital, are supporting a number of upcoming events including the launch of a spectacular Adur and Worthing-wide Careers Fair at Worthing Assembly Hall in September, which will be open to businesses, residents and training providers.
