Northbrook College gig brings community together to support Sudanese refugees
Music students from Northbrook College partnered with musician and human rights activist Bashir Al Gamar, along with local refugee charities Refugee Radio and Best Foot Music, to host a charity fundraising gig.
The show raised more than £300 to support those affected by the civil war in Sudan.
A diverse crowd turned out at the Prince Albert pub in Brighton, including figures from the local music industry, University of Sussex academics, and professionals in human rights and refugee advocacy, alongside students, parents, and friends.
Those who attended had the chance to gain an insight into the challenges that many refugees face, as well as experience some new sounds.
Helena Thomas, Principal of Northbrook College and Worthing College, praised the initiative, saying:
“This event showed the power of music in bringing people together for a greater cause. Our students demonstrated incredible dedication, and it was inspiring to see the community unite to support those affected by the crisis in Sudan.
“Seeing so many people come together—from industry professionals to students and families—was a testament to the strength of our local community and the positive impact we can have when we stand together for a cause that truly matters.
“The night was more than a gig—it was a reminder of what’s possible when creativity, compassion, and community come together.”
