The Argus ‘captures’ Northbrook College student’s talents

8 August 2024

From work experience at The Argus to now securing her dream university spot, Creative media student, Yasmine Bel Salma has enjoyed her inspiring journey.

After three years of studying both levels 2 and 3 of Creative Media, Film & Photography at Northbrook College, Yasmine finished her course on an impressive note as Andrew Gardner, reporter at The Argus, was delighted by her talent during her recent work experience at the newspaper.

Andrew shared: “Yasmine has an eye for a good picture and is not afraid to get stuck in to get the shot she wants, be it posing people or finding creative compositions.

“Even in the two days that Yasmine was with us, we noticed her technical ability greatly improve and she was confident using different lenses and techniques to get strong images even in difficult circumstances.

“She was a quick and keen learner and will get on very well with whatever she decides to do next.”

After thoroughly enjoying her course, both studying on campus at Northbrook and her work experiences, Yasmine is now ready to take on her unconditional spot at University of Portsmouth, where she will study a degree in Film Production.

Yasmine said: “I am so grateful for the college for giving me this major leap in confidence and personal growth. It really focuses on work experience and real-life progression.”

Expressing her gratitude for the opportunity to work at her local paper, Yasmine added: “From start to finish this experience was so exciting. I had such a variety of tasks just in the two days that I was at the newsroom.

“One of the stories I worked on with Andrew actually ended up on the front page of the paper the very next day, which was a real pinch me moment.”
