Advanced Curtain Making Course – Soft Furnishings

COURSE OVERVIEW

Once you have basic curtain making skills then it is time to take your curtain making skills to the next level in this advanced class, where you will dive into more complex techniques and professional-grade finishes.

Producing items for the home yourself gives you the freedom to choose colours, fabrics, and design features in limitless combinations that are not readily available.

This course is ideal for aspiring curtain makers or anyone ready to master the finer details of curtain craftmanship. Leave with the skills and confidence to produce high-end, bespoke curtains for clients or your own home. * Please note that this course is designed for learners who have a foundational knowledge of curtain making.

Cherie originally studied fashion at the University of Westminster, gaining a BA (HONS) degree. Her love of interiors started when she worked at Liberty’;s in London. She went on to gain her qualification in both modern and traditional upholstery and was awarded the ‘Medal for Excellence’; for her work by City & Guilds.

Students will learn how to make:

• Two sample sized interlined curtains with handmade headings (triple pleat & goblet)

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

• Construct advanced curtain styles (triple pleat and goblet headings).

• Add lining and interlining

• Pattern match widths

• Make and attach covered buttons

• Create mitred corners and add weights

• Create hand finished headings (triple pleat and goblet)

• Calculate pleat placement

• Understand advanced fullness guides

You will need a sewing kit including -; dress making scissors, tape measure, pins, selection of hand sewing needles, fabric marking pen or tailor’;s chalk.

For your first session please bring 1 meter of patterned curtain weight fabric, 1 meter of coordinating curtain weight plain coloured top fabric, and a spool of matching thread.

This course runs on a Monday daytime 09:30-16:30.
