Financial Support

We understand that financial matters are an important consideration for our students and that everyone’s circumstances are different.

Advanced Learner Loan

If you’re thinking of progressing onto a full-time course
and are aged over 19, you may qualify for this loan.
To be eligible, you must:

  • Be aged 19 or over at the start of your course
  • Be a UK or Irish national, or have settled
    or pre-settled status under the EU Settlement
    Scheme or indefinite leave to remain
  • Be applying to study on a course which
    is level 3* or higher

* Defined by the government as a maximum of three A-levels; Access to HE course; Level 3
and/or level 4 certificates or diplomas; an advanced or higher apprenticeship

Financial Support

If you are in care, a care leaver, in receipt of Disability Living Allowance or Personal Independence Payments as well as Employment and Support Allowance or Universal Credit/Income Support in their own right, you may be entitled to receive up to £1,200 if you meet the eligibility criteria. The exact amount awarded to an individual is based on a financial assessment completed by the student financial support.

Travel LSG

Your Local Authority may offer travel support if:

  • You are aged between 16 and 18 on 31 August 2024
  • You have Special Educational Needs and/or disabilities
  • You or your family are in receipt of a means-tested benefit/on a low income
  • You live more than 2 miles walking distance away from the College

If you do not qualify for Local Authority support, the College may be able to help you with travel costs if your family is on a low income and you live more than 2 miles away from your campus.

FEE GUIDANCE

We believe that financial constraints alone should never be enough to prevent a student from studying and so we will work with you to find out what support you may be entitled to and help you to access any funding available.

Travel

If you are facing financial difficulties that mean you may have trouble paying for your transport to college, please contact Student Services for information on any assistance that may be available to you.

16-17 Saver railcard

You can get a 16-17 saver if you are 16 or 17. It will give you 50% off most rail fares and can be purchased online at www.16-17saver.co.uk. The current cost is £30 for a year.

16-25 Railcard

You can get a 16-25 Railcard if you are aged between 16 and 25, or you are a mature student. The railcard will give you 1/3 off a range of tickets as well as other discounts. Railcards can be purchased online at www.16-25railcard.co.uk or at any staffed Ticket Office. The current cost is £30 for a year.

Course cancellation

If a course is cancelled by the college, you’ll receive a full refund of fees paid.

If you choose to leave

Courses which are longer than one term
If you choose to leave your course within 28 days of it starting and the course is longer than a term, a refund may be made of the fees paid, minus a £50 administration charge and any payments made to examining or other bodies that cannot be reclaimed by the college. After 28 days of the course commencing, you will be liable for paying the full cost of the course. If you have an Advanced Leaner Loan they will stop their payments to us and the remainder of the fees will be payable directly by you.

Courses which are one term or less
If you are booked on a short course and cancel at least 14 working days before the course start date you will receive a refund of the course fee minus a £50 administration fee. If you cancel less than 14 days before the start of the course or leave the course after it has started, no refund will be given.

Exceptional circumstances
Where there are exceptional personal circumstances, an application for a refund may be made in writing to the Head of Financial Services.
