BA (Hons) Dance & Professional Practice

This highly practical course allows you develop your dance technique throughout a variety of genres in our outstanding facilities. There are options to pursue performance, choreographic and/or teaching interests as part of the course.

You will take part in regular practical classes to build on your technical and performance skills, providing you individual feedback and progress reviews.

Performance is an integral part of your skills development and you will take part in a variety of performance workshops. You will be provided opportunities including studio, theatre and outside performances, where you will gain valuable and varied experience.

There is a strong focus on developing skills suitable for teaching or leading workshops; this will help improve communication skills, understanding of dance development, safety in dance and delivery of lessons. You will learn how to produce appropriate lesson plans, tailor lessons for specific levels or abilities and be given teaching opportunities to gain experience.

Each application will be assessed individually, including a review of your grades, interview, portfolio/audition and any experience.
Typical entry requirements are below but offers may vary:
  • a relevant A-Level
  • or Level 3 Extended Diploma
In exceptional circumstances, if you do not meet our entry requirements, your application may still be considered if you demonstrate additional strengths and alternative evidence. This might, for example, be demonstrated by:
  • related academic or work experience
  • the quality of the personal statement
Audition and interview
You will also be required to audition and interview for this course. You will take part in a ballet class, a jazz class and we would like you to perform a 1.5 – 2 minute solo in a style of your choosing. This will be followed by an interview.
