Box Cushion Making Course – Soft Furnishings

COURSE OVERVIEW

Sewing soft furnishings for the home is one of the most meaningful and expressive ways to add your personality and style to your home.

Whether you are wanting to refresh a chair or update a window seat, bench, or outdoor furniture, this course will guide you through each step of the process. By the end of the course, you will walk away with a finished box cushion and the skills to tackle home décor projects with confidence.

Students will learn how to make:

• A sample sized box cushion with zip closure and piped edges.

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

• Accurately measure and plan your cushion

• Cut foam and fabric to size

• Constructing boxed edges

• Inserting a zip for removable covers

• Use techniques for achieving crisp corners and professional finishes

• Utilise tips learnt for working with piping and patterns

You will need a sewing kit including -; dress making scissors, tape measure, pins, selection of hand sewing needles, fabric marking pen or tailor’;s chalk.

For your first session please bring 1 meter of top fabric and a spool of matching thread.

this course runs on a Monday daytime 09:30-16:30

Tutor Cherie Newman originally studied fashion at the University of Westminster, gaining a BA (HONS) degree. Her love of interiors started when she worked at Liberty’;s in London. She went on to gain her qualification in both modern and traditional upholstery and was awarded the ‘Medal for Excellence’; for her work by City & Guilds.

This hands-on course is ideal for those with basic sewing skills who want to expand their upholstery or soft furnishing knowledge.
