COURSE OVERVIEW
Bring high-end, handcrafted style to your home with this fashionable and on-trend course focused on creating bespoke lampshades and cushions using frills and pleats.
Whether you are new to sewing or looking to elevate your skills, this workshop offers a perfect blend of creativity and craftmanship.
You will walk away with a set of custom-made home accessories and the confidence to keep creating.
Students will learn how to make:
• A hand gathered/pleated lampshade
• Sew a matching cushion with stylish frilled or pleated details.
By the end of the course, you will be able to:
• Gather your fabric and use pins to position your pleats with precision
• Measure, cut and mark fabric correctly.
• Hand-sew your pleated fabric to a lampshade frame
• Create a clean, professional-looking lining
• Add stylish trims for a polished finish
• Create and sew a coordinating cushion featuring frills or pleats
• Use different methods for creating frills and pleats
• Create a lapped zip.
You will need a sewing kit including -; dress making scissors, tape measure, pins, selection of hand sewing needles, fabric marking pen or tailor’;s chalk.
For your first session please bring 1 meter of top fabric (fabrics such as cotton lawn, silks, and fine linen tend to gather better than thicker fabrics) a spool of matching thread.
This course runs on a Monday daytime 09:30-16:30.
Tutor Cherie Newnham originally studied fashion at the University of Westminster, gaining a BA (HONS) degree. Her love of interiors started when she worked at Liberty’;s in London. She went on to gain her qualification in both modern and traditional upholstery and was awarded the ‘Medal for Excellence’; for her work by City & Guilds.
