Northbrook College Hospitality Students ‘Step Up’ to the Challenge

27 June 2025

Hospitality and catering students at Northbrook College enjoyed a variety of fun activities, designed to help them ‘Step Up’ ahead of the next academic year.

Level one hospitality and catering students started the event with a restaurant-style mocktail masterclass, where they learned to craft a range of refreshing summer mocktails.

Students progressing from level one to level two took part in a vegetarian dish cook-off challenge, testing their creativity and culinary skills by designing and preparing a variety of vegetarian dishes using an assortment of ingredients.

Meanwhile, level two students advancing to level three participated in an enriched dough masterclass, where they explored advanced baking techniques and the art of working with enriched dough to create delicious pastries and bread.

The purpose of the event was to provide students with a hands-on experience of what lies ahead in their studies, helping them build confidence and enthusiasm for their future in the hospitality industry.

Steve Cannell, Learning Lead for Hospitality & Catering at Northbrook College, said:
“Events like ‘Step Up’ give our students a realistic and immersive experience, helping them develop essential skills while fostering a passion for the industry. It’s incredibly rewarding to see students engage with hands-on learning, pushing their creativity and technical abilities to new heights.

“These activities not only prepare them for the next stage of their education but also instil confidence and enthusiasm that will serve them well in their future careers. At Northbrook College, we believe in providing opportunities that inspire and challenge our students, ensuring they leave with the knowledge and experience needed to thrive in the hospitality and catering world.”
