Northbrook College student artwork selected for prestigious exhibition

19 July 2024

Bonnie Fraser, a Level 3 Diploma in Creative Practice – Fashion and Textile Design student at Northbrook College, has been chosen to exhibit their work at Origins Creatives 2024

The exhibition, which takes place at the Mall Galleries in July, is a free exhibition organised by UAL Awarding Body, which offers a unique opportunity for art enthusiasts, critics, and industry professionals in the creative sector to discover new original talent.

Bonnie, who is on the Level 3 Fashion & Textile Design course, said: “My jacket is inspired by my grandad, who was a prison officer at Brixton Prison back in the eighties. I basically interviewed my grandad and designed the jacket based off his experience.

“I’m still in shock I’ve been chosen, I don’t think it’s really hit me yet. I was actually up in London with a friend when I got the email, and we ended up celebrating up there.

“You never know who is going to turn up to these galleries, so I am going to go up there so people can put a face to the piece. But I know I eventually want to be a tailor.”

The exhibition highlights the exceptional work of students from centres across the UK, showcasing their talent across a wide range of subjects.

Carolyn Harrison, Bonnie’s lecturer, said: “This is such an amazing achievement for Bonnie, in her first year has won Best in FE Show and now gained a place at the Origins Exhibition.

“She tackled the brief professionally, showing great creativity, passion, awareness and ambition to push herself into creating some magnificent pieces of work.

“I’m extremely impressed by Bonnie’s response to this project and what she has managed to achieve.”

Helena Thomas, Principal of Northbrook College, added:
“This exhibition underscores the remarkable talent and hard work of students like Bonnie Fraser. Her inclusion in Origins Creatives 2024 is a testament to her dedication and creativity, as well as the supportive and nurturing environment provided by Northbrook College.

“We are incredibly proud of her accomplishments and excited to see her future contributions to the creative industry.”

The exhibition will launch with an invite-only opening night on 16 July at 6pm. It will be open to the public from 17 – 20 July, alongside an online showcase.
