Northbrook College university-level Fashion Design students have partnered with national charity Oxfam to create a striking window display for this year’s Second-Hand September campaign.

Second-Hand September is Oxfam’s annual initiative encouraging people to buy only second-hand clothing throughout the month, helping reduce the environmental impact of fast fashion.

The installation, titled ‘River of Denim’, features a collection of upcycled garments crafted from discarded jeans donated to Oxfam.

The display was brought to life by course lead Gayle Atkins alongside third-year student Alex Hughs, who also designed the exhibition poster, and includes inspiring pieces by fellow BA (Hons) Fashion Design student Sophia Davis.

The exhibition will remain on display throughout September, with visitors encouraged to stop by and experience the students’ creativity first-hand.

Helena Thomas, Principal of Northbrook College and Worthing College, said:
“This project is a fantastic example of our students using their skills to make a positive impact. By collaborating with Oxfam, they are not only showcasing their talent but also helping to spread an important message about sustainability and the future of fashion.

“Partnerships like this show how education and industry can come together to inspire change in our communities.”

Fashion Design degrees at Northbrook College are validated by University of the Arts London (UAL), ensuring students receive industry-recognised qualifications from one of the world’s leading creative institutions.
