About this Course

This course gives an all round insight into both traditional leading & copper foiling (‘Tiffany style’). Start with a sample panel in each technique & progress onto your own projects.


Suitable for all abilities; beginners & intermediate, with regular one to one support given.


Final term tailored to students interests such as repairs, applique & microwave kilns.

 

Course Content

  • Designing and pattern making in both leading and copper foil techniques
  • Cutting glass
  • Leading, soldering and cementing
  • Wrapping glass in copper and soldering
  • Blacking to finish
  • Last term topics chosen by students

What you will achieve

By the end of the course you will be able to :

  • Make a pattern for either technique
  • Cut glass with confidence
  • Lead a panel together
  • Use a soldering iron, to solder lead and copper foil
  • Cement and black and polish up your work to show it off to its best

Continue to next year’s course with tutor support to complete your own goals.

Other Costs

On the first night, please bring a glass cutter (oil based ones are best www.creativeglassgiuld.co.uk ), notebook & pen. Wear old clothes, closed toe shoes. Glass, lead, copper foil for sample pieces provided within course fee.


Materials/equipment discussed at 1st lesson. Further projects will incur costs depending on their complexity. Students are required to purchase equipment if they wish to work at home, guidance provided.

The Tutor

Naomi Frances MA(Sequential Design/Illustration) is passionate about glass and has been designing and making in this medium for over 25 years. She has completed many projects from pub windows to stained glass portraits to Tiffany lampshades. She exhibits regularly.
