About this Course

Painting for all including beginners. Learners will use and experiment with a range of materials including acrylic, watercolour and oil paints. Learners will be guided through the various stages in the planning and creation of original painted pieces, with emphasis on experimentation and expression.

 

Course Content

Colour theory and mixing, compositional development, linear perspective, ways of seeing, how to use various materials including watercolours, acrylic and oil paints. Alongside a feature of art history throughout the course including Realism, abstract expressionism and looking into contemporary artists.

What you will achieve

By the end of the course you will be able to compile and create a portfolio of works produced from the course, having had practice with the use of watercolours, acrylic and oil paints. You will also be able to comment and assess your progress throughout the course, giving critique to elements of your work that could be developed.

Progression/Career Path

Short drawing or painting classes in the summer term of ACL art courses beginning in September 2018. A portfolio could be built up and you could apply for a part-time or full-time BA Fine Art Course at Northbrook College.

Other Costs

Sketchbooks A3 (various surfaces and thickness), canvases, paintbrushes (various sizes), acrylic paints, watercolour paints, pencils, sharpener, masking tape, folder for handouts. We would recommend that you wait until the first lesson if you are unsure of materials to purchase as advice will be given.

The Tutor

Lyla Fernandes has completed a BA in Communication Design (Illustration and Graphic Design), has a fine art background as well as having completed a PGCE. Lyla works as a Freelance Illustrator, working with the use of watercolour, acrylic and print methods including lino and screen printing within her personal work.
