About this Course

The BTEC First in Travel and Tourism aims to inspire and enthuse learners considering a career in the sector. It will give you an opportunity to gain a broad knowledge and understanding the skills needed in the industry and support progression to level 3 and give entry to a range of employment including travel agencies, visitor attractions and tour operators.

 

Entry Requirements

To start this course you need:
Either
At least 3 GCSEs at grade D / 3 or above, including English and maths
or
a relevant Level 1 qualification at Merit profile, including English and Maths requirements.


All students will need to have a tutor interview and initial assessments prior to being accepted on the course.


Alternatively:
- If you do not have the above qualifications, you could start by doing a year on the Level 1 Diploma in Vocational Studies course, before applying to move on to this Level 2 course.Click here for the Level 1 course.
- Students with at least 4 GCSEs at grades A-C / 9-4 may be able to start on the Level 3 course instead.

Course Content

You will study areas including: The UK Travel and Tourism Sector, Marketing, Development of Travel and Tourism, Customer Service, UK Visitor Attractions and the Cruise Industry. Assessment is via a variety of methods with 2 units assessed by external examination and the remainder assessed internally via reports, customer simulations and presentations.

Progression/Career Path

After one year, you can achieve a Level 2 Extended Certificate in Travel and Tourism. This means you can progress to the Level 3 course.
