This course allows you to experience a broad range of disciplines using our specialist workshops and studios equipped for creative practices, including painting, printmaking, photography, wood, textiles, film, photography and graphics

 

Entry Requirements

To start on this course you need:


Either
At least 4 GCSEs at grade C/4 or above, preferably including English and maths, and evidence of your art/design work
or
a relevant Level 2 qualification, including English and maths requirements.


You will be asked to show a portfolio of your art or design work at interview.


If you do not have the above qualifications:
- Students with grade D/3 in GCSE English and an art or design subject may be able to start by doing a year on the Level 2 course instead, before applying to move on to this Level 3 course. Click here for Level 2 course.

Course Content

This course allows you to experience a broad range of disciplines, including:

  • Sculpture
  • 3D Design
  • Graphics
  • Illustration
  • Fashion
  • Textiles
  • Computer Based Art & Design
  • Film/Video
  • Photography
  • Printmaking


The programme is delivered through practical studio based activity, together with research into contemporary and historical design practice. There is a focus on the development of analytical drawing skills and transferable skill acquisition. During the second year of Level 3, students begin to select areas of particular interest and are encouraged to work with increasing independence of mind. The new 3D Design element can include designing and making items using wood, metal, ceramics and plastics.


The programme is supported by cultural & historical lectures, museum visits and study trips. This course will help you to fulfil your creative potential in a friendly and supportive environment, whether you want to go into employment or prepare for study at a higher level.


If you have less that grade C / 4 in GCSE English or Maths, you will also study that subject at college. More information

Progression/Career Path

After 1 year at Level 3 you can achieve a University of the Arts London (UAL) Level 3 Diploma in Art & Design. This means you can progress to the Extended Diploma course (below).


After 2 years at Level 3 you can achieve a University of the Arts London (UAL) Extended Diploma in Art & Design. This is equivalent to 3 A Levels. This means you can apply for university level courses. Alternatively you could seek employment, where your options could include graphic design, animation, web design, fashion design, photography, interior design, painting, sculpture etc.
