About this Course

This course provides a good foundation for starting many Computing and IT careers covering a variety of subject areas, such as design and development of web based, programmed and database solutions, system support, hardware and software maintenance.

 

Entry Requirements

To start on this course you need:
Either
At least 3 GCSEs at grade D/3 or above, including English and maths
or
a relevant Level 1 qualification at Merit profile, including English and maths requirements.


If you do not have the above entry requirements, you could start by doing a year on the Level 1 Diploma in Vocational Studies course, before applying to move on to this Level 2 course.Click here for the Level 1 course.
- If you have 4 GCSEs at grades A*-C / 9-4, preferably including English and Maths, you could start on the Level 3 course instead. Click here for the Level 3 course

Course Content

Course delivery and assessment is carried out through practical activities, problem-solving, design and development based on realistic workplace scenarios to conduct research and complete assignment and project work.


At Level 2, students will complete mandatory and optional units in a variety of IT subject areas. Students are expected to study and achieve English / Maths GCSE at grade C/4 or Functional Skills at level 2. More information

Assessment/Exams

Students are assessed via observations, completion of practical / written assignments and online tests, which will be either internally or externally set. Presentations may also be used for assessing communication skills. In addition, students will be required to take Functional Skills (English, IT and Maths) as required.

Progression/Career Path

After 1 year at Level 2 you can achieve a BTEC Level 1/2 Extended Certificate in Information and Creative Technology. This means you can apply for and progress to Level 3 of this course.
