This course has been devised in response to industry and student-led demand for practical training in makeup and hairdressing techniques for theatre, film, TV, fashion, festival, carnival and entertainment arenas.

Discover the art of making beautifully finished bolster cushions in this hands-on class.
Through expert guidance and practical instruction, you’;ll learn professional techniques to create cushions that are as decorative as they are functional -; ideal for beds, sofas, or statement pieces.
Whether you are refreshing your home décor or building your sewing skills, this hands-on class will guide you through every step of the process.
This course is perfect for beginners and improvers.
Topics to be covered Students will learn:
• How to measure and cut fabric for a cylindrical shape
• Techniques for sewing and assembling bolster cushions
• Creating piped ends for a structured, tailored finish.
• Making gathered ends for a soft, elegant look.
• Crafting rosette ends for a decorative, luxurious touch.
• Inserting zips or closures for removable covers.
• Stuffing and assembling your cushion inner.
By the end of the course you will complete a sample bolster cushion in your chosen style, along with the knowledge to recreate all three finishes confidently at home or in future projects.
you will need a sewing kit including -; dress making scissors, tape measure, pins, selection of hand sewing needles, fabric marking pen or tailor’;s chalk.
For your first session please bring 1 meter of top fabric, a spool of matching thread, and a 41cm (16”) concealed zip (matching colour to your top fabric).
This course runs on a Monday daytime 09:30-16:30.
Tutor Cherie Newnham originally studied fashion at the University of Westminster, gaining a BA (HONS) degree. Her love of interiors started when she worked at Liberty’;s in London. She went on to gain her qualification in both modern and traditional upholstery and was awarded the ‘Medal for Excellence’; for her work by City & Guilds.
