Northbrook College Students Take Flight Through British Airways Talent Pipeline  

Celebration of a partnership between Northbrook College and British Airways has seen five former students secure roles as Aeromechanics at Gatwick Airport.  

Junior Neville, Cem Tasgun, Destiny Moses, Samuel Winder and Alex Knight, who all studied level three Aircraft Maintenance, have now been recruited by British Airways following their time on the programme.  

To mark the achievement and promote the ongoing work experience programme, representatives from British Airways visited the college’s Shoreham Airport Campus, alongside the five former students.  

The visit also gave current aerospace students the opportunity to hear first-hand about progression routes into the aviation industry and what employers are looking for in future recruits.  

The British Airways team, including David Randyll, Teresa Burgess, David Holl and Johnathan Escott, spoke to students about the structure of the work experience programme, the recruitment process and the skills and behaviours required to succeed within the company.  

The work experience programme launched in November 2024, with ten level three students completing three one‑week placements over a six‑month period.  

During their time at British Airways, students were mentored by experienced staff, received detailed feedback and gained valuable hands-on experience, which proved instrumental in supporting applications, interviews and employment outcomes.  

Junior Neville, one of the recent British Airways recruits, said:  
“We gained key skills from the college, including theoretical knowledge, and with British Airways, we learned more hands-on skills on how to maintain an aircraft.”  

Destiny Moses, another recent British Airways recruit, added:  
“I would recommend the course and the college. Since I have been to the college, I have had a few people ask me about my time here, and I’ve found they have the same interest in mechanics as I do. 

“I think it is something that even if you don’t know what you want to do, if you do come here, you will end up loving it.”  

Kellie McGovern, Work Placement Coach at the college, added: 
“Northbrook and British Airways have worked collaboratively to provide this amazing opportunity that gives hands-on experience and the prospect of gaining either an apprenticeship or employment with British Airways.”
