A variety of invitees, students and staff recently came together to open the new state-of-the-art Construction Trades Centre at the college’s West Durrington campus.

The exciting two-story building features specialist workshops for brickwork, carpentry and joinery, which have been built to support the training of the next generation of construction professionals.

It was officially opened by Dr Beccy Cooper, MP for Worthing West, as they cut the ribbon to reveal the new building.

Other guests included representatives from Amiri Construction, who were responsible for constructing the building, Worthing Borough Council, and ECE Architecture.

On the day, guests were given guided tours of the building, as well as live demonstrations led by college course leaders.

Dr Beccy Cooper said:
“It is such an honour to open this amazing building here at Northbrook College…what an absolute asset this place is for Worthing, and it is a pleasure to be here for the opening of this amazing building.

“I know that Northbrook College has been doing some fantastic stuff for a long time, and this really builds on their excellent reputation.”

Each room of the centre is equipped with industry-standard tools, as well as a variety of renewable technologies – reflecting the college’s strong commitment to sustainability.

Councillor Sophie Cox, leader of Worthing Borough Council, added:
“I was really impressed by the bricklaying and carpentry – just seeing these bedrock skills that we need in our society…we’ve got lots of building projects going on across the town and we really need young people to keep coming into the industry.

“Having Northbrook College right in our town and delivering the skills for our young people…now having this construction centre here is a really fantastic opportunity for young people in our area who are looking for something more hands-on.”
