COURSE OVERVIEW
This course is a general introduction to Stained Glass. You will learn to make Leaded Light and Copper Foil pieces and will be encouraged to progress to your own projects as the course progresses.
This course is an excellent introduction to the beautiful art and craft of stained glass. We will cover pattern design for both leaded panels and copper foil so that student projects will be truly unique. We will learn how to cut glass safely and confidently and to use the traditional techniques of leading, soldering and cementing a leaded light. We will create decorations and gifts for the house and garden using the Tiffany technique of copper foiling, learning to solder and patina the copper foil pieces.
By the end of the course you will be able to make beautiful leaded and copper foil pieces from design to finish, using the skills and confidence you have gained to further refine your making and designing techniques.
We will discuss and try out tools in the first class, so you may wish to wait until after that to purchase your own. As the course progresses, you may wish to buy your own oil filled steel wheel cutter and tools. You will need pens, pencils and paper, a permanent marker and scissors. Please wear old clothes and closed toed shoes. You may bring an apron if you wish. All materials and most tools provided for the small sample pieces included in the course fee. Further projects will carry extra costs.
